California Stake Conference and Wayne - 3/22/2016

We start another week at the temple.

Today I went with the Hartman's to the California Stake Conference. It was a good meeting. I don't understand much of what was said, but I love feeling the spirit.

Pres. and Sister Marler spoke. It was kind of a farewell talk to the stake, the end of June they will be completing their mission as President and Mom of our mission. They are wonderful people. It didn't take long to feel like they were old friends.

This was taken at lunch last week. It's not the greatest picture, but it will have to do. We sure love them.

Me, the Sister Sisters and Sandy Hartman

The  Pedro Miranda family, Bill and Sandy, the Sisters, and Sister Marler.

The young man with the pinkish tie is Pedro's son.  He got his mission call to Huston Texas.

Wayne is back in Trujillo and I'm glad to have him home. He wouldn't let me get a taxi by myself to meet him at the airport, so I waited anxiously for him here at our apartment.

Wayne had a 10 hour layover in Atlanta. He rented a car and went to church.

From Wayne:

"I am in Atlanta Georgia. I met the Andersons from Star Valley. When I said Hooper...They were on a mission  in Washington DC with Ralph and Sonya Nelson, Susan Harrop, Robert and Diane Widdison and Keith and Maureen Flint. There is my two degree separation.

The two missionaries from this ward are both on missions to Salt Lake City.

The other ward's missionary is in Iquitos Peru.

The stake president is the black man from that church video we saw who was a bishop.
His name is Sullivan- Jermaine Nicholas Sullivan

I apologized to the people behind me in church for texting. I told him about you and Peru and he said he went to Lima on his mission."

He sent me these pictures. He saw a Chic Fil A I asked him if he ate there, he didn't, they aren't open on Sunday.

I was so glad to see him, I didn't take his picture. I made him a welcome home sign.

He brought a bunch of stuff back for us, the Hartman's and the Fackrell's. This is a blurry picture of the stuff!

It's just nice to have him back. I am so thankful for my family. They are everything to us and our love for them is impossible to measure.
Families are Forever!

I want to remember this 3/20/2016

I have been reading the Book Of Mormon, this week I had a lot of me time to read it.  I love the counsel Lehi gives his sons.

Lehi's words are good advice for all of us.  Chapter 2 is good about the fall of man and that we are here on earth to find joy.  All of the chapters are so good.  I read about the signs of the times that are getting more fulfilled. In a way it makes me sad, but then I realize that I should be happy. I also realize that we all need to be the best we can be. We have been warned and we have also been blessed.

I would suggest you go back and read 2 Nephi, I know the Isaiah part is hard to get, but it is still there for us. Chapter 9 we need to be faithful and humble. I like chapter 10 verses 20-25. I especially like chapters 26 through 28, to the end. I also like that it says over and over again, "if you keep the commandments you will prosper in the land."  I will keep reading, I hope you do too. I am so thankful for this great book of scriptures. I love it.

Today at the temple,  one of my assignments was to help officiate a session. There weren't enough patrons for two of us sisters to officiate.  I asked, and was given permission to be a patron instead of an officiator. I got a head set and went through the session listening in English. It was so wonderful to hear the temple endowment in English.  There are many promises and covenants made, but the blessings for  being faithful and enduring to the end are beautiful and almost hard to imagine.

I am so thankful that I was able to do the endowment for Paula ????.  I felt the spirit let me know that she had accepted what I had done for her. As I sat in the beautiful, peaceful Celestial room, I felt the Spirit let me know that things will be ok, and I felt the warm love of my Savior as I was comforted.   I am so grateful for the blessing of being able to serve a mission with Wayne in the Trujillo Temple. It is a great blessing to me and our family!

Farewell to Nields - 3/19/2016

We are finishing another week.

On Sunday night, Wayne flew home to take care of some business and sign some papers. So I have been here all week alone.

On Monday the 14th, the couple missionaries got together for lunch at the mall. A Subway is new to the food court, so we had sandwiches.  It tasted so good to eat American food.  We had a great time together visiting and catching up. It was a farewell lunch for the Nield's too.

Bill Hartman and the Gimez's he bought their lunch. The Sister sisters, Pres. Marler and me.

The Fackrell's had just returned from Utah, they had a new grand baby and spent a few weeks home. They brought us the stuff the girls gave them for us.

Bill and Sandy Hartman. Thanks to Sandy for sharing her pictures.

Later that evening, we had FHE and dinner with the temple missionaries and presidency at the Casós home. It was a farewell to the Nield's and a birthday for me.

Bill and Sandy Hartman spent the previous Monday with the Nield's shopping for me a gift.  I love the Peru apron they gave me! It was so sweet of them. Thank you!  Thanks to Bill for taking one for the team. Sandy Hartman made me a cake with vanilla ice cream. It was delicious. Thanks Sandy!

I have had a nasty cold so instead of blowing out the candles, I used a lid and fanned them out.

I love my new Peru Apron!

On Tuesday, the Nield's completed their mission here as temple missionaries. They went home to Sholo Arizona. They will be missed.

It was also my 60th birthday on Tuesday! It was a fun, I enjoyed the many calls, texts, messages, hugs, and wishes from everyone, especially Wayne, the kids and Grandkids.  It was a good day.

I spent some time visiting with the Hartman's, they are great friends, we celebrated a lot and had a good time.    After a special missionary session at the temple, the Fackrell's came and hung out with us too. It was so nice to just visit and laugh with our friends, we have some great ones.

The Laivas gave me this little cake which was so sweet of them. They are a great family. Stephany said she got accepted to grad school at BYU so she will be going there in August. I 'm happy for her.

Later that night Sister Quintanilla and Sister Haro came to see me and gave this flower.  So sweet of them.

I had a great birthday, I am so thankful to be healthy and serving here in the Trujillo temple.

On Thursday the 17th it was Tami's birthday!  Happy Birthday Tami! We love you!

A new missionary couple, the Guevara's, came to take the Nield's place.  I baked some chocolate chip cookies for them and shared some with the Hartman's.

I will be back at the temple this afternoon, tomorrow I am going to Stake Conference with the Hartman's and Wayne will be back here Monday morning.

Piano Boys & Trujillo Brass Band - 2/19/2016

Tonight we went to the Palermo Church to listen to the Trujillo Brass Band.

When we arrived at the church, we heard these two playing the piano in the chapel. Diego Quintanilla and Joel Haro are two young men we first met when we went to the Quintanilla's for family home evening when we first got to Peru.  They have learned to play the piano all on their own and they are both very good.  They've been playing for about 4 years and I think it's cool they use an iPad instead of paper music.  We've heard them before and were happy we got to go listen again.

These are pictures of the Trujillo Brass Band. We've heard them before and we enjoyed them again.

We loved listening to them. We had a wonderful evening.

Fackrells - 3/11/2016

This afternoon we got these pictures.

Jim and Patti Fackrell with our girls and our babies :) in Bountiful Utah

The Fackrell's were home for a few weeks to spend time with their family. They have a new grandson. We asked them to bring a few thing back to us. Emily and Natalie surprised Tami with a night away at Emily's house for her birthday, so T&N stopped our stuff off at the Fackrell's on their way to Em's.

Alice, Hank, Jayne

This is a beautiful sunset we saw that night.  It was Beautiful!

We are so blessed!

A Stitch In Time - 3/7/2016

This morning I have been doing the Monday morning wash. Sheets, towels, whites, and darks.

I have a different perspective on a little thing like this.

In Hooper this would have been a worn out sock.

But in Trujillo I mended it.

I find myself appreciating some of the simple things.

Who knew that Pork and Beans would be a treasure.

I am thankful for this experience to be grateful for simple things including a "stitch in time."

Another Week - 3/6/2016

We had a busy week serving in the temple last week.  I got a picture of a group that came yesterday, Saturday.

Our sessions were overflowing and so was the baptistery.

Today we went to the California ward. We like going to this ward. There are a lot of members from this ward who come to the temple.

This is Sister Messina she's from Las Vegas and  Sister Olsen she's from Canada.

This is Sister Pineda from New York and Sister Coleman from North Salt Lake. Sister Coleman goes home the middle of April. Her parents are coming to get her.

This is Sister Monica Ramos de Lazado. She sat behind me, Sister Coleman, and Sister Pineda during Relief Society. Sister Lazado noticed that Sister Messina took her shoes off, so she took one of them and hid it from her. After the meeting, Sister Messina look all over for her shoe.  It was pretty funny.  You can see Sister Lazardo holding the shoe.

We are well and happy!  We are enjoying this time to serve in the temple and know we are being blessed.

We send you our love and some hugs!

The Washer

This is a long story but I want to remember it so here goes,

The end of January while the temple was closed for cleaning, Sandy Hartman started a load of laundry. A little while later the washer started beeping and making a horrible noise.  She didn't know what to do so she had Bill call Oscar, one of our temple engineers for help. The water in the building was not on so that is why the washer stopped. You can't wash without water.  Sandy didn't know there wasn't any water. They got water to the washer again, but the washer wouldn't work. They couldn't get the door to unlock either, so the clothes were locked in the washer.  Oscar said they would have to talk to the manufacturer. In the meantime Sandy came and used our washer to get the rest of her laundry done.  They finally got the clothes out of the washer, but the washer wouldn't work.

A few weeks later Oscar and a Whirlpool service guy came and took some kind of a memory board out of our washer and put it in the Hartman's washer to see if that would fix it.  That didn't fix it. They put our washer back together and decided they would have to get the Hartman's a new washer.

A few days later I  put some clothes in to wash. After about 10 or 15 minutes, the washer started beeping and the motor was making a terrible noise. When I looked at it, there was a E1-F8 code flashing. I knew this was a fault code and since Wayne was at the temple, he wasn't here to help me.  I decided to google the fault code for our Whirlpool Duet Washer.  This what it said.
No water detected entering washer after 13 minutes, the pressure switch input has not been detected.
If the washer has an F8 E1 error or LO FL error, the door will be locked, and the control will be unresponsive. The washer will start a drain routine which takes approximately 8 to 10 minutes, during which time the pump will run continuously. The control will not accept any input during this time. Please wait 10 minutes before trying to perform any functions.

I got all worried, I left the washer alone blinking the code and it finally quite making the horrible noise because I didn't want my washer to end up like the Hartman's.  I knew that when the Whirlpool guy took our board out he forgot to turn the water taps back on. I called Oscar to come and help me.  He was just getting ready to go home but was happy to help. He turned the water back on.  I showed Oscar what Google said to do.

Oscar got the water valves turned back on and I helped him understand what this all meant, he does understand some English. We did what it said!  The washer reset so now my washer worked again.

Oscar got thinking and it's like a light turned on in his head as he told me he thinks this is what they needed to do to get the Hartman's washer to work. He knew then that the board for theirs was good. He  got the board back from the Whirlpool guy and put it in the Hartman's washer.  He let it go through the reset cycle and now the Hartman's washer works too.  They don't need to get a new one.

And it's all because I googled the fault code.

Later as Wayne and I talked about it, he wondered how I knew to do that and I just told him I've watched him and our boys fix things and that's what they would have done. So thanks to Wayne and our boys for helping the Hartman's washer to be fixed.

See that was a long story.  But I am pretty smart sometimes too.

Hermana Calle

I had an experience last week as I was helping in initiatory.  There was a sister from Cusco, Hermana Calle.  She had come to the temple that day to do family names. She was what I'd call a real Peruvian. She had been baptized and confirmed for her family names right before, so her hair was wet and it was braided in long braids. She was so sweet.  When I asked her how to say the name of the sister she was doing the ordinance for, she said the name and then said, "she's my mama."  I felt the spirit so strong as I tried to do this ordinance for her and her mom. I hadn't felt this before and it was so neat.  Later that afternoon, she was in our session doing the endowment for her mom as I helped her through the veil.

I realized what a great work we are a part of. The spirit helped me that day, to realize that every name we do is important and is someone's mom, daughter, or sister, who has passed on. This is the only time they will hear and be able to participate in these ordinances as someone does them for them. They are eternal.  We do them over and over again but they are only a part of it once. I need to remember this as I do them over and over again.  These are spiritual blessings and they are so sweet.  I am so blessed and lucky to be a small part of it.
