Alta Moche Ward - Father's Day - Goodbye Elder Talbot

Alta Moche Ward - Father's Day

Sunday was Father's Day!  Happy Father's Day to Wayne!  He is a wonderful Dad.  He's been perfect for our family!  I love him a lot.  I'm so glad I've been able to share this mission with him.

Wayne at the pulpit
On Sunday we went with the Bill and Sandy to the El Alto ward in Moche.  Bill and Sandy have been attending church each week at a different building in Trujillo.  This was the last church building in Trujillo (there are 26) for them to attend in all seven stakes.  They haven't been to all the wards, just all the buildings.  This was a small building with no piano.  This building is on the Pan American highway that runs south to Lima and north to the United States.

We wanted to visit this ward to say goodbye to Elder Talbot.  He is one of the missionaries going home this week. He is such a fun and cute Elder.  He was one of the first missionaries we met as we went to immigration with Elder Heward.  Elder Talbot was there doing the same thing for the missionaries in the South mission. In July, the Trujillo Mission was divided into the Trujillo North and the Trujillo South missions.  Elder Heward went North and Talbot went South, Elder Talbot was able to serve half his mission in the North and half in the South mission.  We'saw him at church too as we've visited different wards.

This is the kitchen and Relief Society Room. They are filling the sacrament trays.

The chapel
We came to this ward for our meetings today because it was Elder Talbot's last Sunday in the mission and we really wanted to see him to tell him goodbye.  Bill and Sandy have been to all of the chapels in Trujillo and this was the last one, so that was pretty neat.
Elder Talbot from Cornville, Arizona, Elder Going from Oregon, Elder Tineo from Lima, and Elder Carder from Gallatin, Missouri.
Today was Elder Talbot, Elder Going and Elder Carder's last Sunday in the mission.  This was Elder Goings first area, he got permission to attend his last Sunday here. They are all great young men.

Elder Talbot is the Elder who talked to Wayne about the missionaries not being able to come to the temple.  Wayne made some contacts and helped to make it possible to come again.

Elder Going is next to Elder Talbot, he's from a little town in Oregon.  Wayne always jokes with him about his name and has said the back of his name badge says Elder Coming. He's going home too.  Elder Carter is on the right, he's from an Missouri. He will be going home too.

Sandy, Sister Jazmin Saldania, Jazmin works with us in the temple on Saturday nights.  She's engaged to Joseph Pezantes, they are planning on getting married later next year.

This pretty Sunflower was in the front. Such a pretty ray of sunshine.

This little tienda was next to the church. We could smell the fresh rolls they were selling.

This looks like the Hyundai Excel we use to have, but ours was Red.  This was parked in front of the church.

This building was next to the church looking across the Pan American Highway

We're across the road from the church.

Wayne waiting to get us a taxi to go home. We didn't get this little white one but we did get a little black one.  You can see the church in the background.

We saw all these trucks together on the way home

Sandy took this pretty picture from the taxi on our way home from church.

Because of Father's Day, the road by the temple was very crowded and busy with people going to the cemetery.

My Dad with Hank

Happy Fathers Day Dad!  I love my dad a bunch. I'm glad I was able to talk to him on the phone today.  When I was young, I was his buddy. I was always watching him as he worked outside, working in the yard, working on the cars, cleaning and sorting in the garage and everything in between. I learned a lot by being by his side. He's just a great guy and has been the perfect father for me and I sure do love him.

Sandy found this on Facebook.  This is Ronald Chavez, he works with us in the temple.

Happy Father's Day!!

We had a great day!

Flag Day

Today is Flay Day!
I miss seeing our American flying on flag poles and on people's houses.  I am so thankful and proud to be an American.  We are so blessed to live in such a wonderful and beautiful country.  Being in Peru has helped me to realize what a great blessing it is to live in America.

I love seeing Andy and McKenzie's flag. It's beautiful!

This afternoon we went to lunch at Romano's with the Hartman's. It was nice to get out and share the afternoon with great friends.

This chef guy sits on the counter at Romano's.

After we ate, we walked to see what a Listos store is like.  Sister Casos told us once that they have groceries from the USA.  It was a little gas station type store much littler than a 7-11, the whole store is on the picture.  They only had snacks, drinks, big stuffed animals, and these.

Defiantly no groceries from the USA.

We had an enjoyable afternoon with great friends.

Cookies - It's Fall - Temple Blessings

We enjoyed another week serving here in the Trujillo temple.

I made some chocolate chip cookies for the office Elders, mostly Elder Craft. He asked me on Monday if I'd please make him some. So I did. The sad thing is that he was sick throwing up on Thursday and he didn't even get any.  I'll make him some more.

It's fall in Peru.  It's kind of funny because the temperature still stays between 66 and about 72 now.  It feels cooler. We wear our sweaters in the evening, it's little chilly as the breeze blows in from the ocean.  It's fall but there are no autumn leaves falling, no pumpkins, no corn stalks, and no smells of fall.  So I decided to make Apple Crisp.  It brought the smell of fall in and really smelled good, but it really wasn't as good as I'd hoped.  I'll just remember that fall here isn't like fall at home.

Today, Saturday,  was a very busy day at the temple. We had several wards come with the youth to do baptisms. There was a big bus from Chimbote that came with a lot of people, I was told there were 85 people.

A big bus

These are some pictures Wayne took of the things going on.

Elmer, is one of the guards here, he's our friend. Sister Guevara is also there, they are looking at the crowd inside the common area by the distribution center of our building.  They are standing by the door to the Comedor, the place we eat lunch.

The people inside the comedor, waiting to get some lunch. Also the cooks trying to keep up with all the hungry people.

The comedor

Wayne took this picture of one of the bunk bed rooms that people who come from distances can pay to stay in here as they attend the temple.

Elder Terry completed his mission 2 weeks ago.  He came to the temple today with his parents. As I talked with them,  I could feel the love he has for the wonderful Peruvian people and the temple. He wanted to share this with his parents. It was neat to be there.  The picture is when he left to go home.

We are so blessed to be able to associate with and help the many members, who come here everyday to do temple work.  These people want the blessings of the temple!  They make covenants and promises for themselves, their ancestors, and others who are dead, covenants and promises that can only be made in a temple, The House of The Lord. We are so blessed and so thankful to be a small part of it here in Trujillo.

This is a wonderful experience, we love it!  It's something only a few missionary couples serving here in Trujillo can experience.

6/8/2016 Las Chismosas

Las Chismosas "The Gossips"

I am fascinated every time I see these pictures, paintings, or woven textiles of  Peruvian women.  We saw them when we went to Cusco and Pisac. I decided today to google it.  This is what I leaned.

This is a traditional scene found in paintings, textiles, and painted on pottery.  The backs of Peruvian women are seen in groups of three or more.  Their backs are to us because they don't want us to hear what they are saying. They are called “Las Chismosas” or “The gossipers.” They like to talk, I even found it referenced to a "tattle tale."   The Peruvian women do like to talk.  They are wonderful people.  I wonder if at times they talk about what they are doing and why they are here.  I can sense a bond between them, as depicted in these pieces of art.  They have a simple life style.  They are women, wives, mothers, and grandmother, they are Peruvian sisters.  When they get together, I hope they are sharing the same things we as American sisters share when we talk together, things that are going on in our lives and with our families, and yes maybe even a little gossip.

Another Week & Great Friends!

Another Week & Great Friends!

Today is Monday. We've had an interesting weekend.  The temple closed early Saturday because of the elections yesterday, on Sunday. We didn't have any church meetings because it's a law that everyone has to vote, no public meetings are allowed.  We had a nice quiet Sabbath.

After not having much to do for a few days, we were happy for today.  Jim and Patti wanted to go to lunch with us and Bill and Sandy.  We met at Chili's and had a delicious lunch.  The special today was Chicken Fried Chicken for 15 soles which is about $5.00,  a great deal.  After we left Chili's we ran into several missionaries.  Sister Olsen was the first one we saw, then we saw a lot.  I only got these pictures.

I wanted to get a picture of Sandy and Wayne talking to Elder Craft, but when they saw I was taking a picture, they scattered.

Chinese Buffet & Great Friends

Chinese Buffet & Great Friends

Tuesday, May 31st, we decided to go to get Chinese for lunch with Bill and Sandy.  When we went to get a taxi, Miguel our friend who works in the temple laundry, pulled up with his mom and dad in his dad's taxi. He was dropping them off to work at the temple.  Miguel was borrowing his dad's taxi to move to a new place, so we asked him to drop us off at Chung Woa on his way back, which he did but they were closed.  Every time we've gone to eat at this one, it's always closed. Miguel knew of a good Chinese place, it was a BUFFET.  He took us across town to the California area and we had a nice lunch at the Eating Place.  It was a Chinese Buffet and cost 20 soles each.  It was pretty good.

We noticed down the street was a Wongs grocery store. It was next to this really nice brick apartment building.  We've never seen anything with brick here.  It looked like an apartment building in the USA.

We walked to Wong. It was the little Wong store and we decided to go inside to see if they had anything we needed.

We ran into this member, she lives in the California ward, I don't know her name.  She helps cook in the mission office and she was buying ingredients for Spaghetti, a new group of missionaries were flying in and she was making dinner for them.

I've never seen grapefruits here and that's what these looked like, we weren't sure, so Wayne took a picture so we could google it. They are grapefruits.  We didn't buy anything but it was fun to see the store.  We had a nice afternoon shared with Bill and Sandy.

On Thursday, the 2nd  I made some taco soup, bread sticks, and peach cobbler for dinner.  Sandy made a tossed salad with Kraft Thousand Island dressing.  We all got together for dinner later that night after Bill had officiated the 7:00 pm session and Jim and Patti had finished their session with some members from Chocope.  We had a great time and always enjoy great company and visiting.

Jim and Patti spent the night here in the hospitality center.  They went to the sealing of the family they did endowments with the night before.

We all got together again Friday the 3rd at about noon for breakfast/lunch.  Jim and Patti brought some bacon and I made some pancakes and Sandy scrambled some eggs.  We had another great time together.

It seems like we've always been friends with Bill and Sandy and Jim and Patti.  The friendships we share will be forever.  They are our family away from home and we sure do love them!
