Busy Weekend & Sleep Over

Busy Weekend & Sleep Over

We had a busy weekend at the temple.  The Fackrell's and Bentley's came with several people, even a bus arriving at 2:30 am from ?? I'm not sure.  The baptistery was busy and we had full sessions all day.

There weren't enough rooms for everyone in the Hospitality Center here.  Jim and Patti didn't have a room, they were going to go stay at the mission home, but a bus broke down and would arrive here at 2:30 am and they needed to be here to give the people their keys to their rooms. So, there were two extra bunk bed mattresses, they moved them into our apartment and put them on the floor.  The Fackrell's slept with on our floor Friday night.

We were all tired from the day, we went to bed at about 10:30 pm.

Sometime in the middle of the morning the Fackrell's helped the bus people.   We left quietly to do an early temple session at 6:00 am Saturday.  When we got back about 9:30 am,  the Fackrell's were in sessions and helping with the members they brought so they were busy.  We went back to the temple at 2:00 to do our afternoon shift, just as the Fackrell's were finishing up the temple work they were doing with their members.  We didn't really see much of them.  They were doing their missionary work and we were doing ours. We got home late Saturday night and were tired from our busy long day.

Today we went to the California ward.  It was fast Sunday because next week there won't be church because all of the people need to go vote.   Sister Pineda bore her testimony.  I was touched by the spirit as she spoke even though it was in Spanish, I felt the spirit. I didn't take her picture, I'll get one tomorrow at the airport.

I am so thankful for Sunday when we can go to church and feel the warm spirit of the members.  Another great week!

Squalos - X-Men - Brady's Birthday

May 23, 2016

Squalos and X-Men

It's the beginning of another week.

Today we went to lunch with the American Senior missionaries. It seems like we do this a lot, and we probably do, but we always have a great time.   We all met at Squalo's.  The Marler's were able to come too. I got these pictures from Sandy Hartman's blog.

The group,  Bill took the picture.

The group. Wayne took the picture.

We had a really good time visiting and laughing as we shared lunch.  Wayne took these pictures of the food.

This is Wayne 's favorite, Tallarines Alfredo with a little steak.  I had the salad.

After lunch we went to Wong's for some groceries, especially fresh pasteurized milk.  Jim and Patti had ordered some and Wong's called them to tell them it was there, so we all went to get some.  Jim and Patti got 20 bottles and divided them among us missionaries.  Sister Marler got a lot to share with the office missionaries.  It really is almost like milk from home.  Sandy Hartman says the chocolate milk tastes like a melted frosty, I think so too.  We got 3 bottles of regular milk and 1 chocolate.

That evening we went to Plaza Real to the CinePlanet Theatre with the Hartman's to watch X-Men in the Prime Theatre, the one with the recliner chairs.

They only had one showing in English and probably won't have that next week. We had a great time sitting in our leather recliners and watching the movie.  We forgot we were even in Peru and had a wonderful time with Bill and Sandy.  The whole day was great.  We had wonderful day shared with wonderful friends!!

Last week they sustained Brady as the Bishop of his ward. I am so proud of him for accepting this calling.  I feel for Shawnee trying to keep the boys reverent and happy during Sacrament Meeting.  I know their family will be blessed.

Shawnee put a cute picture of Brady with the boys standing by their front door on Instagram  before they went to church last week. I wanted to put it here, but I can't figure out how to get it off of Instagram.  Look for that,  it's very sweet.

Tomorrow the 24th is Brady's 35th birthday!  Happy Birthday Brady! We love you!

Buenos Aires Ward - 5/22/2016

We went to the Buenos Aires Ward for church today.  We were 30 minutes late because we thought it started at 10:00 but it really started at 9:00 and we arrived at 9:30. We've been to this ward before so we recognized some of the members.  The assistants, Elder Craft and Elder Arenas were in this ward and there were some Sister missionaries too.

This is Sister Thurston and Sister Pattillo.  They are such sweet sister missionaries!  You can just feel their love and enthusiasm for the people in their ward.  I gave them many hugs.  Sister Thurston goes home to Arizona next week on the 30th.  Sister Pattillo is from Washington, she asked me to email the picture to her mom.  Sometimes I don't realize these young missionaries miss their families at home.

This family we met last time we were in this ward.  They have an older daughter and these 3 boys.  Domingo is the oldest and Derek and Dillon are the twins, they will be 3 in October. They are so sweet.

Domingo is 12,  I talked to him a little bit.  I could feel a neat little connection to him.  I asked him if he'd been to the temple to be baptized and he has. He wants to be a missionary when he's older.  He is a great kid!!

When we left the church, his family walked out with us for about a block. As our routes separated, Domingo took one of his bracelets off and gave it to me.  Pretty thoughtful.

Conectate a la Verdadera Fuentes Espiritual.
I noticed some of the other deacons had them on their wrists too. I thought that was so sweet of him.

This is Mabel.  She speaks English and was so nice to sit by me in Sunday School to help me follow along with the lesson.  She went on a mission to California and that's where she learned English.  She was just sweet to us.

The ocean was about 5 or 6 streets down from the church, and I love the ocean, so she walked with us to see it.  There was a tall wall about 10 ft high made of big rocks, so we  couldn't see the water.

I didn't walk down there to see the rock wall, so I climbed on the rocks to see these beautiful views.

There were a bunch of crabs climbing around all over the rocks.

We had a wonderful time visiting the Buenos Aires ward!  I am so thankful for this wonderful opportunity to get to know and love the many different people, young and old.  The church really is a family. We are so blessed to have a testimony of the true church of Jesus Christ.

When we got home, I fried some potatoes and hamburger patties and we had a simple lunch.  Later Wayne made me this, Strawberry ice cream cone.

Today is Nick's birthday.  Happy 32nd Birthday Nick!  We love you.

Peach Cobbler - 5/21/2016

The End of Another Week!

It's been kind of a crazy week.  Lots of thing happening at the temple.  We were able to serve in the mornings which means we had the afternoon to ourselves.  We kind of just relaxed and enjoyed it.

These are some pictures I wanted to share.

Peach Cobbler has become a favorite treat, especially warn with vanilla ice cream.

Wayne noticed this parked outside.  Look how tiny the tires are on this truck. The back ones are smaller than the front ones.  Maybe they think they'll get better gas mileage.

We saw this DHL drive by the temple.  We didn't know Peru has a package delivery company here.

This tree is outside to the left of our balcony.  A branch broke off the top.  We're watching to see if it will grow straight?

This is a different looking truck, it's cab was like a box.  There was a silver horse as a hood ornament, if you look close you can see it.

I've wondered how people move here because we don't see many trucks.  I guess this is how.  I got this from Sandy's blog and she got it from Sister Bentley.

Friday the 20th was Johnny's 37th birthday.  Happy Birthday Johnny!  We love you.

Friday Jim and Patti brought a lady from their branch to the temple to receive her endowments. It was a nice surprise to see them, we didn't know they were coming.  After we finished our temple responsibilities, none of us had eaten lunch, so the Hartman's us and the Fackrell's went to eat a late lunch, early dinner. We always have a good time with these two couples and this time was another good one.

We are so blessed!

Texas Fudge Cake Recipe - 5/20/16

This is a yummy, dense, moist chocolate cake recipe. It came from my mom's Roy 14th Ward cookbook. Loralee Reid's submitted it for the cookbook.  I've made this many many times, and I've had many many people ask for the recipe. So I am putting it on the blog, now you can all enjoy it.

Los Hartman - Los Fackrell - UVU- - Los Alder -Highlights of the Week - 5/18/2016

The Highlights of the week

We had another fast week serving in the temple.  We worked the afternoon shift with the Hartman's.  They served in the Logan Temple for a couple of years before coming here, so they are have many more temple hours than we have.
Bill and Sandy
Jim and Patti Fackrell came on Thursday with a Sister who received her endowment. She's from their branch in Chocope.  They were here again on Friday with a family to be sealed and Saturday morning they came early with Marler's for an early 7:00 special session and training with a few branch presidencies.
Jim and Patti

There were a few other groups that came.  On Friday, about 20 young students from UVU came to our temple to do a session.  It was fun to be able to officiate the session they were in. They're a group from home and that's what made it special. This same group of kids were at the Sacrament meeting we went to on Sunday, Laureles
Sorry, it is really blurry.

The Alders are a cute couple we met a few weeks ago when they came to the temple.  They are from Mesa, Arizona, they just graduated from BYU, they just got married in the Payson Temple, and they are here in Peru to do an internship. They were in our Sacrament meeting.
The Alders

Sister Alder wrote us this sweet note.

Monday we decided to go for a long walk.  We walked to Romano's and had Tallarines Alfredo with a little steak for lunch, it hit the spot.  We took a taxi home. Wayne looked on Google Earth, it was about a 4-1/2 mile walk.

Tuesday evening Sandy Hartman brought us some Chocolate Chip Muffins.  They were moist and delicious. There were 6 but we couldn't wait until after dinner to have one.  They were a sweet treat.

The 13th was my Mom's 89th Birthday.  She is a wonderful person.  Everyone who knows her loves her.  She is definitely one of a kind.  I sure do love her!

This is Sister Tirado's little Grandson, Adriana.  It's fun to see Peruvian kids, they are so cute, but at the same time it makes me miss all of our Grandkids at home, from the youngest to the oldest.
Adriana
We appreciate the temple missionaries we serve with, for being our friends.  Sometimes we get discouraged, but we are enjoying the spirit of the people who work with us everyday and the members who come and go are amazing.  We've grown to love them.  I appreciate their kind gentle and loving ways.  They are happy with their simple way of life.  We have been so blessed and I am so thankful for this opportunity to serve them and serve with them.

Mothers Day Continued - 5/8/2016

Mothers Day Continued

As we arrived back from church, there was this going on.  The traffic was terrible because the temple is next to a really big cemetery. Because it's Mothers Day the people are all going to the cemetery to pay their respects, so we had a hard time getting back to our apartment.

We finally got out of the taxi and decided to walk because the traffic was moving so slow.  As we got out of the taxi I mentioned to Sandy that we should be handing out Book of Mormons.

This is the gate to the temple.  You can see the guard by the little house on the right.  When we got here, we went to go up the sidewalk to go home when I saw these two Elders. Of course we had to say hello.

Then we saw a lot of Elders. They were handing out referral cards and talking to the people coming and going to the cemetery.  No need for us to pass out B of M,  these Elders were doing the missionary work.

These Americans, the Masons, were talking to some of the missionaries.  The Sister with the backpack is Sister Mason.  She served her mission here and went home in December. She was back with her mom and dad and brother. They came to see the temple and happened to come across all these Elders she served with.  We later let them inside the gate so they could see the temple grounds.

Max, Nicole the mom, Brian the dad, Marlee Mason and a brother at home waiting for his mission call to arrive. They are from Mesa Arizona. Marlee was here for the temple open house and gave tours.  She was able to give a tour to the President of Peru.

More Elders

We enjoyed the day relaxing.  I made some lunch and we watched Music and the Spoken Word.  I was able to talk to our kids and Ronola. It was a great day.  I missed being home terribly, but it was great to be here in Peru.

I am so thankful for our family and for the wonderful blessing it has been for me to be a mother of our awesome kids and grandmother to our 20 Grandkids.  I've grown up with them as we've raised each other. I can't forget how wonderful Wayne is.  He adds humor and a lot of love.  We have this wonderful family because he asked me to marry him almost 38 years ago!  I am so blessed and so is our family.
