natalie's scrapbooking

So I wanted to start a digital scrapbook (like Shawnee's) so I downloaded this program called Smilebox. It's really easy to use and I loved doing it. I made a ton of pages in not a lot of time, and then when I got done I was going to send them to be printed. Well, it turns out that with this program you can only print from home, email, or blog your scrapbooking. Since I didn't want to pay $700 for ink to print it, and I didn't want to take up all the space on here blogging it, I made my own scrapbook blog. It's nataliescrapbook.blogspot.com if any of you would like to go on and look at some of the things I've done.

Shawnee, I know you use Photoshop CS3 to do your scrapbooking, but where do you get your pages and embelishments from? I might have to have you give me a little tutorial on how to get going.

Nat, way cute! I would love to give you some references for digital scrapbooking. There are a ton! Sometimes I get the papers and embellishments as "freebies" on different websites and sometimes I buy them. The great thing is that you can use them a gazillion times once you have them (plus in photoshop you can change the color to have "new" papers). Sometimes I also use templates and basically drag and drop stuff in. I use an external hard-drive to store it all, because it starts to get to be alot. Some of the websites you should check out are:
www.digitalscrapbookmemories.com (they offer free classes sometimes and you can buy CDs full of way cute "kits")
www.shabbyprincess.com (lots of freebies if you sign up for their newsletter, plus you can buy stuff that is so cute--they are some of my favorite designers!)
www.digitaldesignessentials.com
www.thedigichick.com
www.littledreamerdesigns.com
www.scrapartist.com
All of these sites have galleries you can check out ideas, plus they have some freebies and of course you can buy stuff. Check them out and if I get some emails about things I'll send them your way! Feel free to email/blog me with any questions. You already know Photoshop, so it should be pretty easy for you to digi-scrap (you'll learn all sorts of lingo too!). I like it because I can upload my pages to Costco's website and have them printed out. If you want to know more about that, I can tell you what I do. Have fun!

Shawnee,
Thank you so much! I have downloaded some stuff from ShabbyPrincess, (I used it for Benson's baby announcement... Brady should have taken one home to you) but I had no idea about all of the other sites. That will be so helpful. Do you do 12x12 pages? Is Costco the best place you've found to get them printed?
Thanks again!

I typically do a 12x12 page, but then "resize" it to 6x6 to have it printed (I actually put 6, 6x6 pages on a 12x18 page and have that uploaded to Costco...it's about $3.99 and I have 6 pages. I use smaller albums to be less cumbersome.) So far, Costco is the cheapest I've found. Most places won't print a perfect 12x12, so this works for me. I have a friend who does one 12x12 and two 6x6 pages (all the same page) and then she keeps the 12x12 for her and puts an album together for each of the grandparents (that live out of state). I thought that was a cute idea.

That's very interesting. I noticed that costco will print 12x12's, but they are $2.99 each I think, so printing six smaller ones seems like it might be the way to go. Casey downloaded a digital scrapbooking podcast for me, so I'm going to see if I can get any tips from that. And those websites are awesome! Thanks!
