Wednesday Nov. 22nd and Thanksgiving Day

Wednesday

It was nice to have one more night in Trujillo.  Our morning was enjoyable.
While we were waiting for the time to leave, Oscar had some issues with the drain plugging on a tub in one of the matrimonial suites.  He came and asked Wayne about ours, as a result, ALL of the drain plugs in the tubs of ALL the apartments were installed wrong.  Wayne helped Oscar fix ALL of them.  Another little task fixed because of Wayne being a handyman.

This picture is one of my favorites!  We didn't take a picture of us in front of the temple, so this one will do. (It was taken July 9, 2017, the last night of our 23 month mission in Trujillo.)

Oscar drove us to the airport, our flight was on time and we were on our way back to Utah!
We arrived at the airport with all of the other people who weren't able to fly out the night before.

Arriving in Lima

Fishing Boats

We arrived in Lima with a long layover.  We hung out up by McDonald's for a while and had some lunch. We found a place on the street level where there were a lot of nice seats to relax while we waited for our flight time to get closer, we didn't want to go to the gate because a gate hadn't
been assigned and once we were in the gate area, we wouldn't be able to get back to the shops and food court, it was comfortable and the time passed quickly.

We walked outside to see the sights one last time.

Wayne got a text from Oscar, we left our Ice Cream.

We flew to Atlanta, then to Salt Lake arriving at 1:00 pm.  Brady and the boys were there to drive us home.  We were so happy to be home in Hooper, just in time for our Thanksgiving dinner with our family!

Nick cooked the turkey.
It was delicious!

Today is our last day in Trujillo!

We spent the day doing little things packing and getting ready to go home.  Wayne helped the guys at the temple while I packed and cleaned, I wanted to leave the apartment as clean as I could.  It was so nice to be able to stay in our apartment.  It will always feel like home away from home to me.  I know Wayne enjoyed it too.  He said several times, "I can walk around in the dark in our apartment."  We have just enjoyed it and are so grateful to have been able to stay here.
Tonight we leave to go home.

We went to lunch at the Quintanilla's home. We love this family.  They have been so good to us!!  They invited our friends Brother and Sister Tirado, Brother and Sister Jaro, and their son Kevin who just returned from his mission.  Kira and Jeffrey Quintanilla were there too, Samir was in school and Diego is serving his mission as is Joel Jaro.  We had a really great time visiting and laughing and enjoying each others company and spirit!  The lunch was delicious as always and the company was wonderful as always.  Sister Quintqanilla felt bad we had been in Trujillo for two weeks and hadn't gone to see them.  Next time we go to Trujillo, we will need to go see them first.  We will miss these wonderful friends, we feel like part of their family!

The time we left from the visit and lunch with our wonderful friends

We rode the Huanchaco bus back to the temple.  I don't ever want to forget the scenes of Trujillo.  These are some of the sights we saw on our ride back.

This is us on the back row of the Huanchaco bus!

I have had a wonderful time being back in Trujillo.  Sometimes I just wish it was a few hours away from Hooper so we could go back and forth.  It would be nice to be able to see them often.

When we arrived back at our apartment, we saw the lunch ladies cleaning up getting ready to go home.

After we got back to our apartment, we were just hanging out not really all the way packed, but packing.
At 7:30 pm, Wayne received a noticed, i think it was an email, telling us they cancelled our flight from Trujillo to Lima.  That cancellation would effected our other flights.  Oh no!! We needed to get home to cook the turkey for Thanksgiving dinner.  We were scheduled to arrive home tomorrow at 4:45 pm which would give me plenty of time to cook a turkey and get ready for a wonderful thanksgiving dinner with our family.  Now, we are wondering if we'll even make it home by Thanksgiving at all.

Wayne immediately got on the internet to check flights, then he called the airlines to see what they would do for us.  I knew that there were several flights with other air;lines leaving so I suggested we hurry to the airport to see if we could get on one of those flights.  We just needed to get to Lima.  Wayne hurried and threw everything that wasn't packed in some bags and we hurried to the airport.

President Casos drove us, hurrying to get us there as soon as possible, even hitting a big speed bump which bounced us around a little bit.   We weren't successful at getting a flight out tonight,  but after an hour or so, Wayne was able to arrange for us to fly out to Lima tomorrow at about noon, arriving home at 1:00 pm on Thanksgiving day.  This means the kids will need to cook the turkey, but we are happy we are getting home just in time to eat dinner with the kids.  We'll see how it goes, hopefully the adventure will run smoothly and we will get there.  I'll let you know.  For now, we're back in our apartment I put sheets back on the bed and we'll spend one more night here.  I'm so thankful for our wonderful apartment and friends who love us!! We have been so blessed.
