The Washer

This is a long story but I want to remember it so here goes,

The end of January while the temple was closed for cleaning, Sandy Hartman started a load of laundry. A little while later the washer started beeping and making a horrible noise.  She didn't know what to do so she had Bill call Oscar, one of our temple engineers for help. The water in the building was not on so that is why the washer stopped. You can't wash without water.  Sandy didn't know there wasn't any water. They got water to the washer again, but the washer wouldn't work. They couldn't get the door to unlock either, so the clothes were locked in the washer.  Oscar said they would have to talk to the manufacturer. In the meantime Sandy came and used our washer to get the rest of her laundry done.  They finally got the clothes out of the washer, but the washer wouldn't work. 

A few weeks later Oscar and a Whirlpool service guy came and took some kind of a memory board out of our washer and put it in the Hartman's washer to see if that would fix it.  That didn't fix it. They put our washer back together and decided they would have to get the Hartman's a new washer.  

A few days later I  put some clothes in to wash. After about 10 or 15 minutes, the washer started beeping and the motor was making a terrible noise. When I looked at it, there was a E1-F8 code flashing. I knew this was a fault code and since Wayne was at the temple, he wasn't here to help me.  I decided to google the fault code for our Whirlpool Duet Washer.  This what it said.  

No water detected entering washer after 13 minutes, the pressure switch input has not been detected.

If the washer has an F8 E1 error or LO FL error, the door will be locked, and the control will be unresponsive. The washer will start a drain routine which takes approximately 8 to 10 minutes, during which time the pump will run continuously. The control will not accept any input during this time. Please wait 10 minutes before trying to perform any functions. 

I got all worried, I left the washer alone blinking the code and it finally quite making the horrible noise because I didn't want my washer to end up like the Hartman's.  I knew that when the Whirlpool guy took our board out he forgot to turn the water taps back on. I called Oscar to come and help me.  He was just getting ready to go home but was happy to help. He turned the water back on.  I showed Oscar what Google said to do. 

Oscar got the water valves turned back on and I helped him understand what this all meant, he does understand some English. We did what it said!  The washer reset so now my washer worked again. 

Oscar got thinking and it's like a light turned on in his head as he told me he thinks this is what they needed to do to get the Hartman's washer to work. He knew then that the board for theirs was good. He  got the board back from the Whirlpool guy and put it in the Hartman's washer.  He let it go through the reset cycle and now the Hartman's washer works too.  They don't need to get a new one. 

And it's all because I googled the fault code. 

Later as Wayne and I talked about it, he wondered how I knew to do that and I just told him I've watched him and our boys fix things and that's what they would have done. So thanks to Wayne and our boys for helping the Hartman's washer to be fixed. 

See that was a long story.  But I am pretty smart sometimes too.
